Courts, claims offices and roads that matter from La Jolla

A La Jolla personal injury lawsuit is filed with the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego. Unlimited civil cases for the Central Division are filed at the Hall of Justice, 330 West Broadway, downtown San Diego; estate matters that reach the court go to the Probate Business Office at the Central Courthouse on Union Street.

Claims against public bodies go to different offices, each generally within six months for an injury (Government Code section 911.2): the City of San Diego's Risk Management Department for City streets, sidewalks, parks and beaches; the County of San Diego's Office of County Counsel, Claims and Investigation Division, for County property; Caltrans or the State's Government Claims Program for Interstate 5 and State Route 52 and state property such as Torrey Pines State Beach; and the University of California, which handles claims for UC San Diego through its own process. General information only; confirm the deadline for your situation with an attorney.

The roads behind most of our La Jolla matters are Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla Parkway and its junction with Hidden Valley Road, La Jolla Boulevard through the Bird Rock roundabouts, the Village grid of Prospect Street, Girard Avenue and Pearl Street, and the Interstate 5 exits at Genesee Avenue, La Jolla Village Drive and Gilman Drive. The nearest Level I trauma center is Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla on Genesee Avenue; UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest is also Level I.

Questions

Meetings in La Jolla are by appointment, so an attorney's time is set aside for you. Call (858) 531-2019 or use the free consultation form to arrange one.

All three offices work the same files. Hemet is the firm's case-management base, and the office you meet at does not determine who handles your matter.

If the City may be responsible, for example for a road or sidewalk condition, a written claim generally must be presented to the City within six months (Government Code section 911.2). Claims against the other driver follow the two-year rule. General information only.
